A Working Life: Photography, History And Activism.

5:30 pm

Dear Readers,
Day: Friday
Date: 19th Nov,2015
Time:5:30 pm
Venue: KitabKhana.
About the session ,
Can a piece of art remain personal while impacting the life of a country? How is such art created? Is it deliberated or spontaneous, ceremonial or candid? Is there a point where politics, activism, personal lives and art converge? What does the journey entail?
We are delighted to invite Ram Rahman - acclaimed photographer, designer and activist - to Mumbai Local.
Ram Rahman is one of India's most iconic photographers, and as one of the founders of SAHMAT - Safdar Hashmi memorial Trust - his work is inextricably entwined with social politics. Yet, every photograph he takes also has a deeply personal story to tell. Ram Rahman's photographs stand for everything he believes in - at the political, individual, social and national level. In this Mumbai Local, he will take us through his creative and professional journey - from Physics to photography, from funerals to riots. He will open up and explore the roots of his Nehruvian and socialist thinking, explaining how exposure, time and thought have brought him where he is today.
Come, share an evening and journey with an incredible artist, as we discover how history, politics and stories come together in art to affect an entire country's consciousness.
